I guess I've never really been interested in "making it" and entering the art market, getting solo shows, getting shows at all. I have not even been sure what I'm going to do with my art. This article just makes me feel this way even more. I've never wanted to make an effort to sell my work, particularly, I'm not interested in my paintings as objects--they're not for being bought and sold (though they could be bought and sold).
Perhaps we (as a society) will begin to appreciate art as a normal thing again, as a part of our homes, the places we spend our time, of our every day lives, rather than solely for the knowing and enjoyment of a select and upperclass few. This would be nice.
